Woohoo! It's Spring Break...sort of? My university is having it's 'Reading Week' (read: Spring Break) wayyyyy early this year, which is not impressing many people on my campus. There's snow on the ground and the temperatures are still pretty low...I mean, I live in Canada, so what was I expecting, right? However, my friend Ricki and I have decided to make the most of the situation, and go to San Francisco for the week!
I've decided that for this trip I'm going to try and pack everything solely into my carry on suitcase...
...this because I seriously dislike checking my luggage. You run the risk of losing your belongings, having them arrive late, getting rifled through, or being broken in transit. Not to mention the endless wait at the luggage carousal!
Before I started packing, I was curious about what kind of clothing items I should be bringing. I know that even though the temperature says that it's going to be in the high 50's and low 60's, San Fran is on the bay, and we could end up with significant windchill...but since it's also California, we could get some heat as well! Based on what I've found from poking around the internet, most people say regardless of what time of year you go: bring lots of layers! So that's what I'm going to do. Below is a mini list of what clothing and footwear essentials I'll be bringing along on my trip!
*EDIT: It ended up being incredibly warm during our trip, so I'm glad I packed some lighter clothes!
Clothing
4 short sleeved shirts - for layering and mixing and matching with different bottoms.
2 oversize cardigans - for throwing over a shirt to keep warm.
1 pair of jeans - an obvious necessity, but darker washes go with everything.
1 maxi-skirt - perfect for warmer days with the occasional windchill & last minute dressing up.
1 pair black dress pants - just what you need to dress up a basic t-shirt.
1 pair of leggings - perfect for under an oversized cardigan on long plane rides.
1 classier dress - a travelling staple, you always need a little black dress.
1 jacket - not too heavy, not too light..for when the bay breeze sneaks up on you.
2 scarves - one heavy weight, one light...for the cool days and even cooler nights.
underwear and socks - one for all six days, I don't like to re-use or do laundry on my trips.
2 bras - one nude and one of your colour of choice.

.
1 pair black flats - they go with everything and can instantly dress you up.

In the next few days I'm going to write about what liquids I'm bringing in my carry on, & how to follow the TSA 3-1-1 Rule.
