Cancún Part 6.5! (Waterfalls in Pisté)

Wednesday, February 19, 2014

On the same day that we went to Chichen-Itza, we also went to a cenote (taken from the Mayan word for well). Cenotes are deep natural pits that are usually open to the sky. They are formed from collapsed caves. The pool is incredibly deep, and the surrounding walls have places where you can leap from! The walls were covered with vines, as well as some that hung from the top of the cave. There was also a waterfall near the back.

We swam around in the pool for a good 45 minutes before heading back to Cancun, but I have to say that this was my favourite day of the entire trip! It was so incredibly beautiful. Even though it was visited by millions of people over the years, the water is still insanely clean and blue.

More to come!
